U-Cont is the leading manufacturer of fuel tanks and distribution stations in the Nordic countries.

At the heart of our products is the tank, around which we create efficient, intelligent, and green solutions for the storage, distribution, and production of energy.

With experience from thousands of distribution projects, U-Cont has provided fuel distribution stations in some of the world’s most demanding environments, including earthquake-prone Hawaii, the permafrost of Siberia, and even at a depth of 500 meters in the Kemi mine.

2010s

Our largest distribution station deal in history opened a new decade when we agreed to supply the Uno-X Light distribution station network to Norway in early 2010. The development of the Fire product family culminated in the HFB tank, which remains one of our best-selling products today. The D-model distribution station, designed specifically for emerging markets, was developed in 2015. During U-Cont’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2016, the second generation change began when part of the shareholding was transferred to the third generation. In the autumn of 2016, we reached the top 8 in the national Kasvuopen competition final, which has since led to many positive outcomes, such as the establishment of the Nordean-supported Growth Board.

2000s

In 2000, Muurikka once again became an independent company and now operates as Opa Muurikka Oy, separate from U-Cont. U-Cont established a joint venture company in Poland (U-Cont S.P.z.oo) in 2001. A new steel structure factory was completed in the spring of 2004, adjacent to the existing production facilities. Cooperation with St1 Biofuels on the development and manufacture of ethanol plants began in 2007, with the first plant completed in Lappeenranta in the autumn of that year.

1990s

We invested in new premises during the recession. U-Cont’s underground modular distribution station was developed and patented at the beginning of the decade. In 1995, we secured our first licensing agreement with England and received the ISO 9001 certification. Savon Konehitsaus Oy and Muurikka Oy, which manufactures Muurikka pans, merged in the autumn of 1996, and the company adopted the name Oy U-Cont Ltd. In 1998, we were awarded the East Finland Export Champion Award. That same year, U-Cont established the export company Inuctan in Russia in cooperation with Tammerneon and Autotank. The first generation change was completed in 1998, when Jari Sistonen purchased Reijo Sistonen’s shareholding.

1980s

Sales of Muurikka products began in 1982. The mobile fuel tank, Sipako, was created at the beginning of the decade and marked the start of the company’s export operations, with the former Soviet Union as the main market. In 1984, we received the regional Entrepreneur Award, and in 1985, the Joroinen Municipality Entrepreneur Award. In 1988, Matti Korhonen sold his shares to Reijo Sistonen, and the company’s name was changed to Savon Konehitsaus.

1970s

Business continued to focus on meeting various customer needs. In 1976, the Muurikka outdoor cooking pan was developed. In 1979, the company acquired its own premises in Joroinen.

1960s

U-Cont was founded in 1966 by Matti Korhonen, who established a one-man repair shop in Pieksämäki. The following year, Reijo Sistonen, a tank specialist, became the second partner in the company. The shop operated under the name Konehitsaus Korhonen & Sistonen. In the early years, in addition to tanks, the company also produced a variety of products: saunas, the Räväkkä brand of stove, frame structures, railway carriage repairs, and much more as demanded by the market. The first non-family employee started work in 1968.
